Rural Tapes

Band/gruppe -

Recognized from bands like I Was A King, Heroes & Zeros and a dozen of other alternative acts, Arne Kjelsrud Mathisen has been a part of a vital Norwegian indie scene for 15 years. Over the last years he has also started the bi-continental jangle pop group The No Ones with Peter Buck and Scott McCaughey from R.E.M. / The Minus 5 and I Was A King frontman Frode Strømstad.

Now, the Norwegian multi-instrumentalist is releasing solo material, as Rural Tapes. His music clearly draws inspiration from the 70`s krautrock, film music, classical music and instrumental bands like Tortoise.

The first single ''Pardon my French'' features guest appearances from Alexis Taylor (Hot Chip) and saxophonist Terry Edwards (PJ Harvey, Tom Waits). This is the first taste off Rural Tapes` self titled debut album, to be released via Smuggler Recordings in the spring 2021. The album also features contributions from Scott McCaughey, Gary Olson (Ladybug Transistor), Rhodri Marsden (Scritti Politti) among others.
